Gout arthritis is a type of arthritis and a sudden attack identified by severe pain, tenderness, swelling, and redness in joints. It occurs when the amount of uric acid increases in the bloodstream. It pains when a high amount of Uric acid accumulate in the joints. The pain begins from our big toe in the leg and spreads to other knee and joints gradually. Gouty arthritis in Tamil is ‘கீல்வாதம்’ and historically as ‘Disease of Rich’ or ‘Disease of King’.
CAUSES OF GOUTY ARTHRITIS:
Sweating and urinating release uric acid. Since uric acid dissolves in blood and flows through urine to Kidney.
When we control urination, Mono Sodium Uric salt (MSU) or the uric acid deposit as crystal and it becomes gout arthritis. It mostly affects men and women after menopause due to bone depreciation. It comes as a sudden attack whereas it prolongs to get cured.
Some foods contain Purines such as seafood, steak, poultry, and organ meats. Alcoholic beverages as beer and fructose also promote a higher amount of uric acid. So, diet for Gouty arthritis must be noticeable.
Often Gout shows its symptoms interrupt at night times. They are:

Consuming alcohol, particularly ‘beer’ increases the risk of gouty arthritis. Intake of rich diet to our routines like seafood, meat, and fructose also increases the chances of getting gout. That’s why gout is known as “King of disease” or “disease of rich”.
MEDICAL CONDITION AND CERTAIN MEDICATION:
Certain medical conditions develop the risk of gouty such as non-treated high blood pressure, diabetes, Kidney and heart- related diseases, and metabolic syndrome.
Gout should be properly treated. If any medication is gone wrong, it will lead to serious conditions. Certain medicines have the capacity of increasing uric acid levels such as thiazide diuretics which is used to treat hypertension and aspirin(low-dose)is for the patients who have done organ transplants, diuretics, levodopa, etc.
Gout arthritis is a genetic disease like diabetes. If any of your family members have had gout, you can expect to develop the disease.
AGE AND GENDER:
Gout affects men earlier more than women due to lower levels of uric acid. Men get in the age between 30 to 50. Women suffer when they get menopause. During those periods, the uric acid level increases.
RECENT SURGERY OR TRAUMA:
Recent surgery and trauma have been combined with the risk of increasing gout.
Gout can co-exist with Osteoarthritis. There can be high chance of getting gout by OA patients.
